Wiesbaden MS band experiences world-class music in Frankfurt
WIESBADEN, Germany – Forty-one members of the 8th grade band from Wiesbaden Middle School recently attended an unforgettable evening at the historic Alte Oper concert hall in Frankfurt.
Students had the opportunity to hear the world-renowned Gewandhaus Orchestra perform masterworks by Dmitri Shostakovich and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
This special 8th grade band trip has become a cherished tradition over the past three years. Band director Bradley Crowe first introduced the experience after surveying students and discovering that only a small percentage had ever attended a live orchestra performance.
Since then, the annual trip has provided students with the chance to experience professional musicianship and the transformative power of live symphonic music firsthand.
The evening was about more than just the concert. Students dressed to the nines for the occasion and enjoyed a meal together at a downtown Frankfurt restaurant before attending the performance.
Students practiced proper concert etiquette through the night and blended in with the crowd of regular concertgoers. The band members were complimented many times on their awesome attitudes and behavior.
The memorable night sparked enthusiastic conversations the following day in band class as students reflected on the music and the experience they shared together.
“It was an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Jordyn M.
“It was the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard,” added Nolan P.
Experiences like these continue to inspire Wiesbaden MS Band students and deepen their appreciation for music beyond the classroom.
