The JLS 2026 Reading Challenge has come to a triumphant close, and we couldn’t be prouder of our student body! This schoolwide activity was more than just a contest; it was a testament to the dedication of our students. We want to give a special thank you to the core group of JLS students who stuck with the project from the beginning. Their hard work ensured this initiative was implemented effectively and ran smoothly for the entire school. They encouraged over 175 students to participate, this is 33% of the entire school!

Record-Breaking Achievements

Our students reached incredible milestones, but one achievement truly stood out. Our Grand Prize winner, Boley Campbell, demonstrated an awe-inspiring commitment to reading by completing over 4,000 pages during the challenge. This phenomenal effort earned Boley the first-place Kindle.

Celebrating Our Grand Prize Champions

Following the final tally and review of the signed reading logs, we are excited to recognize our top readers with their updated official spellings:

  • 1st Place (Kindle Winner): Boley Campbell (8th Grade).
  • 2nd Place (Book Series Winner): Hans Harker Shaw (7th Grade), who chose the Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales series.
  • 3rd Place (Two Books Winner): Anya  Breiner(7th Grade), who selected Keeper of the Lost Cities and The Mark of Athena

Honorable Mentions

Several other students displayed remarkable consistency and reached the final tiers of the competition, each winning a book of their choice:

  • Alex Poston (7th Grade) – One of Us Is Lying.
  • Jemma McArthur (7th Grade) – The Cellar.
  • Lizzy Kimball (7th Grade) – Wings of Fire: The Graphic Novel.
  • Charlotte Hutaff (6th Grade) – Finding My Way.

The Spirit of the Challenge

The core of this challenge was about consistency and moving beyond comics or manga to conquer chapter books. From the first 20-page milestone in February to the final 150-page goal on March 20, students tracked their progress meticulously on their reading logs, secured parent or teacher signatures, and turned in their tally sheets during lunch.

Congratulations to all our winners and to the student organizers who made this year’s challenge a schoolwide success! Keep reading, JLS!
